In the red guide, there is also space for restaurants that offer quality cuisine at reasonable prices. Michelin recognizes these establishments through the Bib Gourmand seal, which this year has been awarded to fifteen establishments across the territory.
Represented by Bibendum (the Michelin Man) licking his lips, this award recognizes the restaurants with the best quality-price ratio in the country and is presented annually along with the classic guide awards and the green stars. These are establishments where you can eat well for around $40 depending on the dishes you choose from the menu.
Tonight, at a gala held at the Víctor Villegas Congress Auditorium in Murcia, where the third star was awarded to Casa Marcial (Asturias), the following restaurants have been added to the list of Spanish Bib Gourmands: Bistrot 1965 (Castelló d’Empúries, Catalonia), Arteaga Landetxea (Mondragón, Basque Country), El Yantar La Cocina de Pilar (Requena, Valencian Community), Moral (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands), Enxebre (Vigo, Galicia), Taberna 5 mares (A Coruña, Galicia), Alba (Alicante, Valencian Community), Aureum by Pzicualia (Bailén, Andalusia), La Oveja Negra (Barbastro, Aragon), Bacaro (Barcelona, Catalonia), El Rebojo (Garachico, Canary Islands), El Raier (La Pobla de Segur, Catalonia), Varra (Madrid), Tándem (Murcia), and Espacio Amunt (Ulldecona, Catalonia).
The Bib Gourmand category, which was unveiled to the public in 1997, has established a special connection with inspectors, as stated by the Red Guide. “By including all types of cuisine and focusing on the best value for money, it confirms that a good meal, without expecting it to be given to us, can be accessible to any budget,” they say. Spain already has 213 establishments with this distinction.
Catalonia and Andalusia are the autonomous communities with the most Bib Gourmand restaurants, with 34 establishments holding this distinction. They are followed by Galicia, with twenty; Madrid, with sixteen; Castile and León, with thirteen; and Cantabria and Castilla-La Mancha, with seven.
