A year ago in this section of Gente, we dedicated space to the love story of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. “She is so in love and convinced of their love that she sings about it,” we wrote. In February 2024, the Bronx artist dedicated her ninth album, This is me… Now, to him and premiered the musical film This is me... Now: a love story, where she showcased their particular fairy tale lived with the actor. So much has happened since then that the couple, who had split before summer, have just finalized their divorce, and both are single again.

The judgment has come five months after the actress filed for the dissolution of the marriage, which lasted only two years. The couple got married in August 2022 and separated two years later. When the actress and singer filed for divorce on August 20th at the Superior Court of Los Angeles County, she cited irreconcilable differences with Affleck. At that time, she stated that they had been living separately since April 26, 2024. In her petition, Jennifer, as reported by People, informed the court that neither party seeks spousal support and that attorney fees will be split evenly.

The divorce process has been relatively easy thanks to the intervention of Hollywood's most famous divorce lawyer, Laura Wasser. Although they did not have a prenuptial agreement and should have split the earnings obtained during their union fifty-fifty, the former couple, who maintain a cordial, even friendly relationship, has reached an economic settlement.

The singer and the actor will each retain the benefits they individually acquired from various projects during the two years they were married, as detailed by TMZ. Thus, Affleck will keep his stake in his production company, Artists Equity, which he co-founded with his friend Matt Damon in 2022. The company, which started operating four months after his wedding to Lopez, has already produced successful films such as Air, Unstoppable, The Instigators, Small Things Like These, and The Accountant 2.

The verdict has arrived five months after the actress requested the dissolution of the marriage, which has lasted only two years

On her part, the actress and singer will keep the earnings from the projects she has undertaken during her marriage, including the films Atlas, The Mother, Shotgun Wedding and Marry Me. If the profits from both of their ventures during their union were to be added up, the accumulated wealth would amount to 550 million dollars, of which 400 belong to her.

The divorce agreement also includes the $61 million Beverly Hills mansion they bought together, although the terms have not been disclosed. The property, which was supposed to be their dream home, has not yet found a buyer and it is unclear how the assets will be divided.

With the divorce, the artist also wants to officially remove the Affleck surname that she so eagerly took on after the wedding, and is requesting to revert to her former name, Jennifer Lynn Lopez.

During these months already separated, the former couple has shown an excellent relationship, especially when it comes to their respective children, all teenagers. Lopez has Max and Emme, both 16 years old, with her ex-husband Marc Anthony; while Affleck shares Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, with Jennifer Garner. “They have every intention of continuing to be part of each other's lives despite not being romantically involved,” a source recently told Page Six. “Their relationship remains friendly whenever they see each other. They continue to have a close relationship with their children, and although they don't have a shared parenting relationship, they feel like a blended family in many ways,” the source added.

Jlo, 55, and Ben, 52, have experienced firsthand that second parts were never good. Their on-again, off-again love story dates back to 2001, when they met on the set of the movie Gigli, while Lopez was still married to her second husband, Cris Judd. Jennifer and Ben started dating in July 2002 and got engaged a year later. Their love ended, without explanations, four days before their planned wedding in 2004. Affleck would go on to marry actress Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares three children. And JLo married Marc Anthony in 2004.

But the love story of Bennifer, as the couple was dubbed in Hollywood in their first go-around, had a second act. In 2021, after the actor had a brief romance with actress Ana de Armas and the Bronx beauty called off her engagement to Álex Rodríguez, the pair found their way back to each other. They tied the knot in 2022 and celebrated their love in grand style with two ceremonies: one in Las Vegas and another in Georgia. Two years later, JLo's belief that Ben is her true love is once again shattered. Once more.
