Gas heaters on bar and restaurant terraces to be banned in Barcelona starting January 1st
Hospitality
The permanent ban on the use of combustion heaters is part of the Terrace Ordinance approved in 2018, which established the total elimination of this type of heater on the city's terraces starting in 2025 due to the CO₂ they emit. Bars and restaurants can use electric heaters with a power limit of 150 W/m² between November 1st and April 30th
The installation of gas combustion stoves from January 1, 2025 will constitute a violation subject to sanction, and the specifications regarding authorizations for installing gas combustion stoves laid out in the granting decrees will be automatically repealed upon the enactment of the regulations stipulated in the Terrace Ordinance.
