Spain continues to lead the ranking of the best restaurants in the world. This was confirmed this week at the celebration of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants gala in Las Vegas, which placed Barcelona's Disfrutar at the top, followed by the Basque Asador Etxberri, and with the Madrid-based DiverXO in fourth place, dropping one position from last year. The same fate befell their sommelier, Miguel Ángel Millán, who had to settle for the silver after being crowned the best in the world in 2023.
The British ranking has once again praised the creativity, unpredictability, and audacity of the cuisine at Dabiz Muñoz's restaurant. “Everything in this restaurant is a work of art, from the bold decoration to the theatrical dishes,” says The World's 50 Best Restaurants website about DiverXO.
Tasting menu
How does DiverXO work
DiverXO offers “a journey through the hedonistic, indulgent, and creative cuisine of Dabiz Muñoz.” The restaurant operates based on a single tasting menu called “The cuisine of flying pigs.” This consists of 25 dishes, which Muñoz refers to as canvases, that are diverse and where sweet, sour, and salty flavors come together. From South American dishes to local seafood, including Japanese paella, roasted caviar, or the final touch of cotton candy: everything fits in this 5-hour tasting experience.
Another attraction of the restaurant is the staging. The extravagant decoration is the work of the interior designer Lázaro Rosa Violán, where winged pigs stand out and invade the room. The service is a whole experience that emulates Wonderland, as each member of the staff has their own costume (designed by the dressmaker Marina Conde) and plays a character from the story: the caterpillar, the Mad Hatter, the playing cards, the twins...
The most expensive in Spain
How much does it cost to eat at DiverXO?
The price is 400 euros including VAT (previously 365€), to which the cost of drinks must be added, choosing between a pairing option for 300€ per person or the ‘Altos Vuelos’ option, which costs 600€. When making the reservation, you must purchase a ticket in advance for 450 euros per person, which will be deducted from the final invoice on the day of the experience.
According to the restaurant's website, “these tickets are transferable to a third party in case you are unable to attend. We do not allow changes to the reservation date, but if you cancel with two weeks' notice, we will refund the ticket amount.” DiverXO also urges not to reserve a menu for a greater number of guests than those who will attend, as in the event of fewer attendees, the menus of the individuals who purchased their ticket will still be charged.
