It's no surprise that the King and Queen are leaving the Zarzuela to go to the movies, but this occasion has been special after several weeks in which Felipe and Letizia's agenda and life have been, as it will continue to be, marked by the tragedy in Valencia. The King, just landed in Madrid after attending the Ibero-American Summit in Cuenca (Ecuador) and a flight of more than 15 hours, chose to deal with the jet lag and take a break by enjoying, alongside Queen Letizia, the movie premiere that has marked the weekend. The couple went, in the late afternoon on Saturday, to see the movie Gladiator II, as reported by the magazine ¡Hola!, citing eyewitnesses.
The Kings attended the Manoteras multiplex cinemas, located in the Hortaleza neighborhood in Madrid, for the 8:00 p.m. showing in the original version with subtitles, as detailed in the aforementioned publication. It is not the first time that Felipe and Letizia have been to these movie theaters, which are relatively close to the Zarzuela Palace. The Kings, who usually buy their tickets online, waited in line to enter the theater, took their seats, and after the more than two-hour-long movie, returned to the Zarzuela. According to eyewitnesses quoted by ¡Hola! and Informalia, the King was wearing a leather jacket and jeans, while the Queen was wearing a green coat.
In recent weeks, King Felipe and Queen Letizia have been monitoring the tragedy caused by the floods on October 29, focusing their activities on monitoring, from various perspectives, the rescue and reconstruction tasks. Felipe and Letizia visited Paiporta on November 3, where despite the tension and protests from the residents due to the feeling of neglect, they managed to show their support and solidarity with the affected people. The King returned to Valencia on the 12th to thank and highlight the work of the army, and it is planned that this week, once again, together with the Queen, he will return to the area to visit some of the affected areas, as announced by the King himself during his visit to the troops deployed in Valencia.
Ridley Scott's movie, the sequel to the legendary Gladiator, released over 20 years ago, which tells the story of vengeance by Maximus Decimus Meridius, the role for which Russell Crowe won an Oscar, has not received very good reviews. However, it has become the top-grossing premiere of this weekend, filling theaters with audiences seeking distraction. Gladiator II stars Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, and Pedro Pascal.
King Charles III attended the premiere of the movie in London last Wednesday, on the eve of his 76th birthday, and declared himself a fan of gladiator adventures, chatting and joking with the lead actors.
