Unfortunately, sometime last week my girlfriend contracted a UTI (last week was our first week having sex). So, that kinda sucks, but she's been really cool about it. Anyway, we are very poor teenagers and haven't scheduled a doctors appointment yet. Considering that, shes planning on calling tomorrow and seeing how much diagnosis and treatment will cost. Having said that, does anybody know? I did research and found that the usual antibotic used is Trimethoprim tablets for 3 or 4 days (but sometimes up to a week). Does ANYBODY know how much this would cost?

Do her parents not have insurance? Or can she get to a Planned Parenthood? They have a sliding scale they use to figure out what to charge.

That's were she gets most of her stuff done and she doesn't want to tell her parents because.. well she has this mindset that shes 18 and should be able to take care of things like this herself. But yes, Planned Parenthood is where she gets her birth control, check ups, etc. So that is the clinic we are referring to.

A urinary tract infection has NOTHING to do with a vagina. It is an infection of, well, the urinary tract - the tube and system where urine is expelled. Many girls get them.

 

Keep in mind you still require antibiotics to treat a UTI, and failure to treat one can lead to kidney failure.

You can also try Accupuncturists/Accupressurists/Holistic/Chinese Medical Doctors. Many of them are as cheap as $20-$40 and will cure that shit for good, quickly.

 

UTI can be caused by things other than sex. I'm sure her parents would rather her healthy than tryin to cure it through back-alley methods.

 

Well, if she goes to a regular doctor, it'll probably cost an office visit, which will run between $100 and $200 probably, depending on the doctor. Lab tests will run between $25 and $100 depending on what they do. Sometimes they may forego the lab tests.

The antibiotics, may cost as little as $4 if she buys them at WalMart or Target - they are giving out popular antibiotics like Amoxicillin for that little amount of money. If not or if it is a non-typical antibiotic, it may cost upwards of $30 or more.

 

Bullshit. DO NOT go to one of these hacks. If a UTI goes untreated, it can infect the kidneys and shut them down, resulting in death. Don't trust one of these kinds of quacks for something that serious.

If a doctor's office will just take a urine sample and run it in the lab, it shouldn't cost too much. She shouldn't require a visit.

I have about 3 or 4 UTIs a year. Yes, they can happen in males. Mine are caused by a form of kidney disease that I have. Regardless of any embaressment or fears, seeking medical treatment is what is needed right now. There are several different strains of bacteria which may be causing this. Fortunately most are treatable by the more basic antibiotics on the market. However test are needed to insure it not a more severe bateria which have come to exist in the past decade. Most likely it is not but better safe than sorry.
