The royal guards, some also referred to as the E.U.P. (Earth, Unicorn, Pegasus) Guard of the Protective Pony Platoons, are various groups of armored stallion ponies, griffons, or gargoyles that serve various members of royalty. They act as bodyguards, ceremonial guards in festivities, soldiers, and chauffeurs on several occasions. The guards are generally shown wearing extremely serious expressions and usually don't speak, but when they do, their voice is provided by Jayson Thiessen, Andrew Francis, Peter New, and/or Brian Drummond. Their cutie marks are obscured by their uniforms.

They act as bodyguards for the princesses, ceremonial guards in festivities, soldiers, and chauffeurs on several occasions. They wear gold/bronze armor and helmets that resemble roman galea.

Pegasus guards are usually seen having white fur blue eyes and two tone blue hair

Unicorn guards are usually seen having grey fur brown eyes and two tone hair of white and blue

Earth Pony guards are rare, one is seen having white fur, brown eyes and two tone blue hair. Other earth pony guards are seen with sharing the same color scheme as the unicorn and Pegasus guards, but this might be an animation error.

Crystal guards are from the Crystal Empire they have sparkly, slightly transparent purple fur or yellow fur purple hair and purple eyes. While most of the Crystal Empire guards are crystal earth ponies only one guard has been seen as a Pegasus.

Luna's guards have dark grey fur, bat wings, tufted ears, and slit pupils.

All Royal Guards have always been seen as male.

Due to an animation error some royal guards have been seen as winged unicorns.
